Presidency announced names national orders

On 19th of April, the presidency’s office announced the names of the National Orders, which are the highest awards bestowed on people who have contributed to the advancement of democracy and the impact made on improving the lives of South Africans.   They also recognize contributions by individuals to a non-racial‚ non-sexist‚ democratic and prosperous South Africa as envisaged in the Constitution.

The Order of Ikhamanga will be bestowed in Silver on:

Johan Botha (posthumous): For his excellent contribution to opera music and putting South Africa on the world stage. He courageously entertained multitudes and sang for good causes even at a time when his health was weakening.  Johan Botha, honorary patron of Cape Town Opera will always be remembered and celebrated for his incredible commitment to and support of Opera in South Africa.
