A Unique Immersive Environment

Our aim is to generate an early interest in opera and classical music among our youngest audience members who may not have access to traditional theatre due to their age. Opera Blocks creates a free and welcoming space where adults can walk around, and babies and toddlers can freely explore, touching costumes and props. We embrace the natural behaviours of young children, with no strict rules regarding food, breastfeeding, or napping.

Engaging the Senses

Opera Blocks places a strong emphasis on sensory experiences. Through hearing, children are exposed to various styles, tempi, rhythms, and volumes of opera and classical music, showcasing different voice types and instrument sounds. Sight and touch experiences are curated through interactive lighting, extravagant costumes with removable elements, soft props made from various materials, and inflatable items for safe play.

Blurring Boundaries for a Gentle Introduction

Opera Blocks blurs traditional theatre etiquette boundaries to create a gentle introduction to live performances. From flexible arrival times to the freedom to move throughout the performance, to explore the performance area, and to come and go as one pleases, we aim to nurture curiosity and understanding of live performance in small children.

A Journey Through Themes

Each production within Opera Blocks is carefully themed, offering a rich and varied experience. From underwater adventures featuring recognizable songs like “Under the Sea” to nocturnal experiences with glow-in-the-dark elements in “Twinkle-Twinkle,” our productions captivate both adults and children alike.

Movement Techniques and Collaboration

Our singers collaborated with renowned international choreographer Dalija Thelander, learning movement techniques geared towards motor and sensory development in small children. This collaboration enhanced the overall sensory experience for the young audience.
