Established in 1999, Cape Town Opera is a locally revered and globally acclaimed institution that has always endeavoured to be part of the growth of South Africa’s cultural landscape. Innovative, progressive, contemporary, relevant, accessible, ambitious, inspiring and successful, our multi-award-winning organisation celebrated its 21st year as a cultural and educational asset for Cape Town and South Africa in 2020. And throughout this difficult landmark year, it managed to keep its head high, sustain its staff and provide support to the creative community that constitutes its network.
During the difficult months of lockdown and theatre closures, Cape Town Opera developed innovative ways of continuing aspects of its programme, whether by working through virtual portals or by developing intimate productions in settings that are sensitive to the current crisis. The company also continued its work providing education and training to those in need, expanding channels of accessibility so that it could reach as many people as possible.
Despite the great contributions from our loyal patrons and supporters, to continue doing this fantastic work we need your help.
Whether you are able to contribute with a donation or would be willing to share our request with friends and colleagues, any help would be greatly appreciated. Our artists may never get the opportunity to thank you personally, but your donation, in whatever form, will go a long way to ensuring the survival of a community of beautiful voices – and it will help keep alive the creative village that is able to not only potentially find these voices but also to sustain them.
What your donation to Cape Town Opera supports

These include providing a sustainable livelihood for our artists and musicians, coaching fees, venue hire, transport costs, fuel and insurance, office administration, technology costs, set design, costume design, set building, costume making, hair and make-up artists, videography, photography, accommodation as well as the costs involved in delivering our Youth Development and Education programme.
