Position Overview

We’re looking for a creative, organised and enthusiastic person to join our team in a role that combines design work with hands-on support for our marketing and audience engagement efforts.

If you have skills in graphic design, websites and/or digital content creation, this is your chance to contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s leading opera company.

Whether you come from a formal design background or have learned your skills through experience, what matters most is your ability to get things done, your eye for great visual communication and your willingness to pitch in where needed.

Applicant requirements

You don’t need to tick every box — we’re looking for a self-starter with a positive attitude and a good eye. Ideal candidates will have:

  1. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro or equivalent).
  2. Experience or familiarity with website editing.
  3. Strong organisational and time management skills.
  4. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to help wherever needed.
  5. An interest in the performing arts and audience engagement.

Additional requirements:

  1. Ability and willingness to work long hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, as required.
  2. A valid SA driver’s licence and own transport to and from work.
  3. Clear criminal and credit record.
  4. Must be legally able to work in South Africa.

Applicant responsibilities

Working as part of Cape Town Opera’s Marketing Department, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Creating visual and promotional material across print and digital platforms (e.g. posters, social media graphics, event programmes).
  2. Designing and updating content on our website.
  3. Editing and compiling video content for promotional or archival use.
  4. Coordinating the design, print and delivery of programmes, signage and banners.
  5. Assisting with logistical aspects in the marketing department, including programme sales, ticketing lists, giveaways and promotional events.
  6. Supporting the roll-out of marketing and development campaigns, sometimes requiring after-hours work around performances.
  7. Collaborating with other departments to ensure clear, effective and on-brand visual communication.
