THANDO MPUSHE – BASS BARITONE

Thando Mpushe believes that his career is, to a significant extent, a product of South Africa’s strong choir culture: growing up watching his mom and her friends perform, he could see from a young age that singing was a rewarding pursuit. At 10 years old, he became familiar with opera as a musical genre, and hasn’t looked back, joining the Cape Town Opera following his time at UCT and performing in productions such as Porgy and Bess, Mandela Trilogy, and Don Pasquale. Thando plans to one day complete his Master’s by exploring his fascination with the voice, particularly the distinctive and as yet unexamined attributes of the Southern African vocal style.
