Botshelo Eric Hunt was raised in the home of a musician: his mother sang in eisteddfods and music competitions throughout her time in high school, and he followed suit. He joined the Mmabana Arts Foundation in the North West Province once matriculated after being scouted by the founder and head of music department, Achilles Mukasa-Bukenya. “He would assist me with music theory and ear training and looked at me as one of the leaders. We would go to disadvantaged schools and teach and assist together too,” Eric remembers. A Baroque fan, Eric loves Henry Purcell best.
His love of music guides him, and Eric wants to pursue his Master’s degree abroad. Though trained as a vocalist, he sees his future backstage. “I want to be a stage manager – right now I’m an assistant stage manager. I want to understand the whole of theatre, not just be an aesthetic singer, and throw my nets wide and see what’s up,” he said.
