When she was a baby, only music would soothe Alida Stoman as her aunt and uncle tell. Ever since, Alida has been singing, dancing and performing. At age 8, she joined a weekend theatre school and threw herself into extracurricular activities like choir, dance and stage classes. By 14, she was taking classical singing lessons. Her voice was made for it. This led her to a BMus in Classical Voice at Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance. In 2020 Alida was visiting family in South Africa and, amidst a global pandemic, became stuck. But she’s quite thrilled to be back home. Since then, she’s taken singing lessons with Cape Town Opera artistic director Magdalene Minnaar and carved a career in South Africa. Alida believes if your heart and passions align and you’re willing to work hard, then there’s a route to success. One of her ambitions is to sing Queen of the Night, following in the footsteps of the legendary Mimi Coertse. But given the unpredictability in which we find ourselves, Alida is happy to surrender to the path God has set out for her… and the possibilities are endless.
