LA BOHÈME (G. PUCCINI)
La bohème , one of the world’s best-loved, most popular operas, comes alive for the Cape Town Opera in a stunning new production directed by Matthew Wild, and co-produced with the Konzert Theater Bern. This production transports the story, originally set in 19th century Paris’ bohemian world, to the avant garde whirl of 1960s and 70s Manhattan, with the doomed romance between the poet , Rodolfo, and the silk flower maker, Mimi at its core. This new production is seen through the memories of Rodolfo’s friend, Marcello, now a famous artist of the New York art scene.
Filled with Giacomo Puccini’s soaring melodies, this production stars returning S outh African soprano Sarah-Jane Brandon as Mimi and baritones William Berger and Brad Liebl as Marcello, tenor Galeano S alas as Rodolfo, with Jeremy Silver conducting the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
